Jangles - Glass Scent balls
|
|
|
These
beautiful hand blown lead crystal glass 'Double Bubble'
scent balls from Jangles of Scotland are based on the design
of the antique 'Witch Ball'. Available in a wide choice
of colours and styles, they are a beautiful and decorative
way to fill any room with the scent of aromatherapy, fragrant
or essential oils. Simply hang them in a sunny window and
let the scent fill the room as the double bubble warms up.
Because of their handmade nature, every scent ball is unique,
we have five styles available: plain glass with either single
or multiple colours, ribbed glass with single or multiple
colours, and opaque single colours. Each scent ball comes
individually packed in a coloured box, with a bottle of
oil and a leaflet explaining the legend and use of the scent
ball.
There's more information about these scent
balls, and the legend behind them, at the bottom of the
page, click here to read the story.
Scent balls are £24.99 each, buy 2, 3 or 4 for
only £23.99 each, or buy 5 or more for only £22.99
each. All prices include P & P.

The Double Bubble...
Jangles scent balls are hand
made and so they vary in size, they are around 10 cm in
diameter and between 13 and 16 cm high. Each Double Bubble
is supplied with a bottle of oil to be poured into the
inner bubble. The Double Bubble should then be hung in
a window or other sunny place where the heat of the sun
will allow the fragrance to circulate and fill the room.
When the oil has all evaporated, simply refill the inner
bubble with any fragrant, aromatherapy or essential oil
of your choice.
Double Bubbles should be hand
washed occasionally in lukewarm water, as they are not
suitable for dishwashers. Other than that they need nothing
more than an admiring glance from time to time...

|
The Jangles Story...
Jangles have added to the traditional
Witch Ball design, blowing a second bubble inside the
main bubble, hence the 'Double Bubble' name. This second
bubble is filled with fragrance, aromatherapy or essential
oil.
Each Double bubble is made purely
by hand at Jangles Studio in Fife, Scotland by Robbie
Campbell and his team of craftsmen, from 24% Lead Crystal
Glass. Robbie has been making Double Bubble scent balls
since around 1997, we have one of his early examples hanging
up here at HoneyPotGifts which was given as a graduation
present. We think they're beautiful and hope you enjoy
them as much as we do.

The Legend...
The Witch Ball dates back to
medieval times and was traditionally hung in windows to
ward off witches. Supposedly, the witch was either scared
by their own reflection in the round ball, or became trapped
within the ball.
An alternate history links the
glass ball with those used by fishermen as net floats.
Fishermen were very superstitious and took the witch balls
from the house to protect them against sea-devils and
sea-spirits.
Witch balls can be found throughout
Britain and Europe and especially in Germany.
